Clean Juice has entered the growing refresher beverage category with the limited-time launch of Sparklers, a line of sparkling fruit-based drinks made with fresh-pressed juices and whole-food ingredients.
The chain's refresher grouping includes Cucumber Ginger-Aid, made with apple, ginger and cucumber juices; Blue Citrus, featuring pineapple, lemon and apple juices combined with blue spirulina and blueberries; and Pineapple Mango Citrus, created with pineapple, lemon and orange juices, turmeric and mango.
The company said the beverages are intended as a cleaner alternative to many quick-service refresher drinks; they have no artificial syrups, colors, dyes or additives.
Though there is no formal definition for refreshers, the category generally includes fruity flavors combined with hydrating ingredients such as water, sparkling water or tea. Most refreshers contain little to no caffeine. The segment expanded rapidly after Starbucks introduced its refresher line in 2012. Competitors, including Dunkin' and McDonald's, have since rolled out similar offerings aimed at younger consumers seeking lighter, lower-caffeine beverage options.
"Sparklers represent everything that makes Clean Juice different," BRIX Holdings CEO Sherif Mityas said in a press release.
"The refresher category is exploding right now, and consumers are paying more attention than ever to what's actually in their drinks."
Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Clean Juice has 50 locations across 16 states. The company is owned by CJ Fresh Holdings and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of BRIX Holdings, based in Addison, Texas.
