Smoothie King is leaning into the brine.
The Dallas-based beverage giant is partnering with Grillo's Pickles to launch a limited-edition Pickle Smoothie, aimed at capturing both a viral food trend and the summer hydration market.
The collaboration arrives just ahead of International Pickle Day on May 16. The smoothie features a blend of Grillo's Pickles, bananas, organic kale and coconut water. According to the company, the concoction is designed to be high in electrolytes to assist with hydration during rising summer temperatures.
"Pickles are not only delicious and having a cultural moment, they also offer real nutritional benefits, especially known for their enhanced hydration," Lori Primavera, Smoothie King's vice president of R&D and product marketing, said in a company press release. "That combination gave us an opportunity to explore them in a new format and push our innovation into new territory."
The beverage is available now for a limited time at a suggested retail price of $5.99 for a 20-ounce serving. To mark the pickle-centric holiday on May 16, participating locations will offer a free 4-ounce promotional sample while supplies last.
For Grillo's Pickles, a brand known for its "clean label" approach and vinegar-based brine, the partnership represents a move into the functional beverage space.
"We love to do unhinged collabs at Grillo's," Mark Luker, chief commercial officer at Grillo's, said in the release. "With that, we don't always get to talk about the functional benefits of pickles. When we partnered with Smoothie King for a hydration smoothie, we knew this was a great opportunity to do both."
The brand is also doubling down on seasonal refreshment by bringing back its watermelon lineup today. The 2026 summer menu includes five watermelon-based blends, such as Watermelon Hydration and Watermelon X-Treme, all formulated with an emphasis on electrolyte content.
