New Orleans-based PJ's Coffee plans to open at 7700 Maple St., New Orleans, down the street from the site of its original location, which debuted nearly 50 years ago.
The 1,700-square-foot cafe, which previously housed a Starbucks, is undergoing a full interior renovation and exterior refresh, according to the company. The location is expected to open in fall 2026 and will become PJ's fifth Uptown New Orleans location.
PJ's Coffee closed its longtime Maple Street location at 7624 Maple St., in January 2025 amid disruptions tied to nearby street construction, according to local media reports.
"Even after we left the original location, we always knew we wanted to return to the Carrollton-Uptown neighborhood," Ryan Stansbury, executive vice president of franchise development for Ballard Brands, told New Orleans CityBusiness."When the Starbucks site became available, we moved quickly, as it gave us an opportunity to reconnect with where the brand first took root."
Located near Tulane University and Loyola University New Orleans, the Maple Street corridor draws a mix of residents, students and visitors.
Ballard Brands, based in Covington/Mandeville, Louisiana, acquired PJ's Coffee in 2008. The company said it plans to expand into additional U.S. markets in 2026, with a focus on territories along the East Coast, Midwest and Texas.
"We have some exciting developments in the works, and this location may offer an early look at what's ahead for the brand," Stansbury told New Orleans CityBusiness.
