Jersey Mike's new mobile app comes with the works

November 5, 2013

New Jersey-based sandwich chain Jersey Mike's has a new mobile app that combines digital ordering and loyalty rewards. Available for iPhone now with Android to follow, the free app lets customers order and pay online, manage rewards, post to social feeds (Twitter and Facebook), find theScreenshot of Jersey Mike's mobile appnearest location and get directions, and access nutritional information, the company said in a news release.

Jersey Mike's, which has more than 750 locations open or under development nationwide, said the app is one of the first to roll digital ordering and loyalty rewards program management into one tool as well as provide customers a seamless experience.

"Jersey Mike's is determined to be out in front when it comes to technology, despite being a nearly 60-year-old company," Scott Scherer, chief information officer, said in the release.

The company also announced it will install new customer-facing terminals to let customers more easily and securely pay for orders by swiping their credit card themselves at the register. The custom-designed terminals have a barcode scanner incorporated into the stand and also will function as the "center" for Jersey Mike's Shore Points Rewards program, where its more than 1.5 million members can earn or redeem points. The company plans eventually to let customers pay at the counter by scanning a barcode, part of an effort to future-proof its POS system.

"Technology is changing at an extraordinary rate, and we built our own customer terminals so that we can accommodate existing and upcoming innovations, whether barcodes, chip-and-PIN or EMV credit cards, NFC technology, UPC codes, data entry, QR codes, or whatever comes next," Scherer said. "Fortunately, the custom terminals are extremely easy for our franchisees to install."
