Uber Eats last week announced a plan to promote black-owned restaurants by dropping delivery fees in the U.S. and Canada for the rest of the year.
Uber Technologies Inc. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a statement delivered to customers late last week that the company was taking steps to help drive diversity and address racial inequities.
"We are committed to creating a community that treats everyone equally and with dignity," he said in the statement.
Uber said it will also be offering discounted rides to black-owned businesses, which have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company previously announced a $1 million donation to the Equal Justice Initiative and the Center for Policing Equity.
