Starbucks upgrades tea offerings

SEATTLE— Inspired by green tea matcha used in ancient Japanese tea rituals, Starbucks will add two new green tea beverages made with real Japanese matcha (ground green tea leaves), to its spring menu: Tazo Green Tea Latte and Tazo Blackberry Green Tea Frappuccino blended creme. According to a news release, green tea has become so popular that more than 16 million Americans consume approximately 4.5 billion cups of green tea per year.
 
"Products with green tea ingredients are considered revitalizing because of their natural antioxidants, and their popularity has made them fashionable at the same time," said Michelle Gass, senior vice president of Category Management.
