Starbucks customers have grown accustomed to getting free iTunes songs each week via printed "Pick of the Week" iTunes cards, but they can now get their free downloads on their mobile devices. Starbucks partnered with Apple to allow application and book downloads through its iOS application and in-store Wi-Fi network, according to CNET.
In 2011, Starbucks began offering paid content from Apple's App Store and iBookstore, but only through printed in-store cards with codes for redemption. Last year, the chain began offering free song downloads through the Starbucks iOS app.
Starting tomorrow, however, customers can get the free songs via the chain's mobile app and get the free e-book selections from the inbox of the Starbucks mobile application on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, or by accessing the Starbucks Digital Network, the company's free in-store W-Fi network.
"This expansion, of adding apps and books, is the reflection of Starbucks and Apple working together to strengthen the relationship for customers," Starbucks Chief Digital Officer Adam Brotman said in the story. "This is another step in the direction that we're going to integrate more things into our mobile application."
Starbucks' mobile application has more than 10 million active users across Android and iPhone, and sees 100,000 downloads each week, Brotman said.
