MOD Pizza is ranked seventh on Fortune's annual "20 Best Workplaces in Retail" list.

December 4, 2015

MOD Pizza is ranked seventh on Great Place to Work and Fortune's annual "20 Best Workplaces in Retail" list. The list provides feedback of 45,000 employees in the retail sector and the honor recognizes retail companies that boast exceptional workplace cultures, according to a company press release.

"Our ranking as a top workplace is particularly gratifying because we believe a workplace is really nothing more than the people who occupy it," said Scott Svenson, co-founder and CEO of MOD. "We have worked hard to create an environment where our people are motivated by a purpose beyond profit, and our collective aspiration is to prove that a business can succeed by putting its people first. Our product may be pizza, but our purpose is people."

Employees ranked companies using Great Place to Work's Trust Index employee survey. Employees answered questions about how frequently they experience the behaviors that create a great workplace, considering everything from the quality of the company';s pay and benefits, their opportunities for advancement, support for employees' personal lives, and management ethics and day-to-day respect for staff. Survey results achieved a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of 5.7 percent or less.

"The companies on this list are leaders who offer retail employees well-rounded workplaces capable of attracting and developing top talent regardless of industry sector," said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work United States. "Ranking on this list a great indicator that these companies' efforts to create great workplaces are resonating throughout their teams."

Since opening the first location in 2008, MOD's mission has been to become a force for positive change in the lives of its team members (the "MOD Squad"), the communities it serves and the broader food service industry. By the end of 2015, MOD will have 2,500 employees within 93 stores operating across 14 states. MOD's growth, nationally and internationally, will continue next year with the hiring of over 2,500 employees to support the opening of an additional 100 stores, the release stated.

For every store opening, MOD donates 100 percent of all pizza sales to a local non-profit chosen by the store team. Additionally, to celebrate MOD's birthday and Thanksgiving, the company donates $1 to local charities for every pizza sold. This month, as a result of its Spreading MODness campaign, MOD is donating approximately $125,000 to 88 charities across the United States, and to date, MOD has donated over $350,000 to local causes.
