The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently announced 48 approved grant requests, valued at more than $550,000 to assist fire departments, police departments and Emergency Medical Services in 15 states across the country.
Since 2005, more than $3.1 million has been allocated to public safety entities in nearly 275 communities. With the main goal of providing first responders the proper equipment needed to save lives, items being donated include police cars, a rescue boat, turnout gear, extrication equipment and dozens of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) which will allow departments to be prepared to provide life-saving assistance if a citizen goes into cardiac arrest. In almost all instances, the donated tools would otherwise be unavailable due to city budget constraints.
"Our local heroes need to be prepared at a moment's notice to protect and save lives, we are thrilled to positively impact so many communities through this round of donation approvals," said Robin Peters, executive director of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. "Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the support of our restaurants, is truly dedicated to equipping, educating and funding first responders."
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation plans another round of grant allocations in January 2012.
Each restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets and sells them to customers for $2. Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit's mission and collect spare change, while the round-up program allows guests to literally "round up" their bill to the nearest dollar.
