Chipotle gets in on the queso action
Chipotle is putting some the Tex-Mex cheese, queso, on some of its menus to see if dairy-loving customers bite, a news release said.
"Queso is the most requested menu item we don't have — and has been for years," Chipotle's Chris Anderson said in an email to Fast Casual. "We are testing it now because we created a recipe that we like and that is true to our food culture."
Queso isn’t yet available to all Chipotle customers. The chain’s NEXT Kitchen in New York City (at Sixth Avenue and 13th Street) is testing a queso made without additives.
"We do believe, however, that it is something we could expand fairly quickly if we opted to do so," Anderson said.
Queso isn't the only new menu addition at Chipotle's NEXT Kitchen; It's also testing a new mix of lettuces and an avocado-citrus vinaigrette for salads, a bunuelos dessert with a chipotle-chocolate dipping sauce and a new frozen margarita, Anderson said.
