California Tortilla launches text-message promotion

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain California Tortilla is using a text-message campaign to enroll customers in its newly launched VIP program.

California Tortilla customers who use their mobile phones to text "taco" to 78247 receive a welcoming text message with a discount offer, and subsequent texts with information on new promotions and programs.

The campaign uses the qtags text-messaging system.

California Tortilla, founded in 1995, has more that 25 locations in four states and the District of Columbia. The chain features 75 different hot sauces.
