Going beyond the standard interview questions is key when it comes to finding, hiring and keeping the right people to work in restaurants and other retail environments, Jim Knight said during this year's Retail Customer Experience Executive Summit in San Diego.

"You gotta ask great behavioral-based, open-ended questions just like any other HR professional would say. "There are specific questions to know, 'Does this person fit my service philosophy in this brand."

Watch below to hear Knight's tips on finding the right staff and how managing employees is a bit like being married:

Wanna hear more? Knight will also speak at this year's Fast Casual Executive Summit Oct. 13-15 in New Orleans. He will share his insights on a panel called, "Training 2.0 – When Learning Goes Social." The session will show execs why social learning must be part of their culture, how to handle common objections, ways to energize their teams, and about available tools to help support a social learning strategy.
