Wingstop creates "Stick to Pizza" TV spots

June 28, 2006

DALLAS — Wingstop launched new 30-second TV spots in select markets across in May that take direct aim at pizza companies serving wings. All four new commercials feature Troy Aikman, Wingstop's spokesman and recent Football Hall of Fame inductee.

The "Stick to Pizza" commercial features two pizzeria employees that aren't sure what to do with an order of chicken wings.  After attempting to toss the wings like pizza dough, they decide, "Maybe we should stick to pizza."

"There seem to be a lot of restaurants getting into the wing business," said Wingstop chief executive Jim Flynn. "These new commercials are a fun way to remind consumers that if they want great chicken wings, they need to eat at Wingstop. We don't get sidetracked with other menu items."

The new commercial, titled "Give me a Minute," leaves Aikman with the tough decision on which is his favorite: Wingstop's traditional bone-in wings or the new boneless wings.  After mulling his opitions, Aikman's chance to announce his decision runs out just as the announcer ends the commercial.

Besides the made-to-order wings, Wingstop's new ad, titled "FryStop," focuses on another reason why the chain has so many loyal customers – its fresh-cut seasoned fries.  But as Aikman points out, FryStop just doesn't have the same ring to it.

In the final 30-second spot, "Troy's Favorites," Aikman announces that Garlic Parmesan and Lemon Pepper are his two favorite of Wingstop's nine proprietary sauces.
