Chipotle Mexican Grill's venture fund, Cultivate Next, has made investments in six emerging companies aimed at advancing food systems, climate resilience and guest experience innovation.

The Newport Beach-based fast-casual giant announced the funding Wednesday, marking the latest expansion of the venture fund since its launch in 2022. The investments support early-stage companies that align with Chipotle's mission to "Cultivate a Better World" and its long-term goal of expanding to 7,000 restaurants across North America.

"Together, these companies demonstrate how innovation is reshaping agriculture, sustainability, supply chains and the guest experience, creating new opportunities to build a more resilient food system," Curt Garner, Chipotle's president and chief strategy and technology officer, said in a company press release. "Their technologies have the potential to create meaningful value for farmers, suppliers, restaurant operators and guests alike."

In addition to capital, the portfolio companies will gain access to Chipotle's operational insights and potential collaboration opportunities.

The Cultivate Next cohort

The six companies represent sectors spanning climate intelligence, agricultural biology and digital hospitality:

Benchmark Labs: An AI-powered weather forecasting and climate intelligence platform. The company provides localized, hyperlocal data to help agricultural growers anticipate climate risks and improve operational efficiency.

IMIO: A developer of microbial agricultural solutions focused on improving soil health and farm productivity. Its biology-driven inputs seek to reduce farming dependence on conventional chemical fertilizers.

Clean Crop Technologies: A food tech company focused on food quality and waste reduction. The firm creates scalable solutions to remove contamination from agricultural supply chains, ensuring more food reaches the market.

Athian: A sustainability measurement platform that aggregates, verifies and certifies greenhouse gas emissions reductions within the livestock industry, helping food companies claim and track environmental progress.

SIMPLi: A transparent supply chain provider specializing in Regenerative Organic Certified® pantry staples. The company connects consumers to food origins using independent testing for nutrient density and sustainability tracking.

PopID: A digital identity and biometric authentication platform. The company utilizes biometric technology to power "pay by bank" networks, aiming to accelerate consumer transaction times and reduce credit card processing fees for merchants.

Chipotle operates over 4,100 restaurants globally and employs over 135,000 people.
