Tender Greens promotes president to CEO

Tender Greens, based in Los Angeles, has promoted its president, DenyelleBruno, to CEO. Bruno, who first joined the company in October 2017, will serve in a dual role as president and CEO to lead the chain to the next level of performance and growth, according to a company press release.

Co-Founder Erik Oberholtzer will step aside as CEO and continue as executive chairman, where he will lead the Board of Directors. Co-Founder David Dressler will continue in his role as chief people officer.

Prior to joining Tender Greens, Bruno spent 20 years in retail leadership roles, most recently president of retail oerations at Drybar Holdings LLC. A Los Angeles native, she has worked with Apple, Peet's Coffee and Tea, Design Within Reach, Macy's and PureBeauty. At Apple, she worked alongside Steve Jobs on the team that launched the first 25 Apple Stores. At Drybar, she opened 55 locations in three years, while maintaining the company culture and enhancing the entrepreneurial spirit of the business. At Peet's Coffee and Tea, she systemized the entire enterprise which improved the guest experience and operational metrics, according to the release.

"Ever since we first founded Tender Greens, our goal has always been to make real, whole, seasonal food accessible to people every day, both in our hometown on the West Coast and across the country," said Oberholtzer. "I am incredibly proud of how our team has helped to fulfill that mission and created a group of restaurants that our guests feel truly connected to and trust. And yet, we as a company have only just begun. As we continue to bring Tender Greens to more communities, we could not imagine a better leader than Denyelle. Her experience in taking iconic brands of our size to best-in-class companies is without comparison, and she also embodies the heart and culture of Tender Greens. Under her stewardship, not only are we positioned to grow Tender Greens successfully nationwide, but we are poised to reach our higher purpose of transforming lives both within our company and our communities."

With a recent 2015 strategic investment and partnership with acclaimed restaurateur Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group and Alliance Consumer Growth, the company is set to grow nationwide, according to the release. There are 26 California locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County and the Bay Area, and two East Coast locations in New York City and Boston, with a second Boston location set to open in the fall.

In addition to Bruno's appointment, Tender Greens has deepened its executive leadership team over the past nine months, hiring Jack Oh, formerly senior director of branding for Adidas, as its VP of marketing, and Paul Asher, founder of BCI Realty, as VP of national expansion.
