Technomic has revealed its inaugural market mapping of the United Kingdom, which includes market size and segmentation data, as well as expectations for the foodservice industry by segment for 2015.
According to a news release, overall improvement in the marketplace is expected next year, with 2015 industry growth forecasted at 3.2 percent.
"The foodservice market is moving in a positive direction and steady growth is evident, led by strengthening performance for operators in the commercial sector," Technomic VP David Henkes said in the release. "The cost sector is subject to slower growth, but improvements at the macroeconomic level will boost business slightly next year."
Henkes adds that some segments such as quick-service restaurants and food-led pubs are doing better than other restaurant segments, such as drinks-led pubs.
One particularly bright spot in the industry is the travel and leisure foodservice segment, which is expected to grow 5.5 percent in 2015. This is a result of ongoing improvements in the hotel/lodging sector and greater inbound tourism.
