Coffee fans were disappointed this morning as they tried to get their daily dose of Starbucks. A "small percentage" of Starbucks locations across the U.S. were closed for repairs being made to the company's water filtration systems. A Starbucks employee in Louisville, Ky., said approximately 700 stores were closed, although a media representative for the chain said the number of closures was much smaller.
The repairs were "preventative maintenance" to the locations' water filtration system, said a company spokesperson.
Locations in Dayton, Ohio, were advised to close at around 7:30 a.m. Eastern time and were expected to reopen in the early afternoon. As of 11:30 a.m. Eastern time, 80 percent to 90 percent of the closed locations had been reopened.
