Starbucks debuts at Disney World with ‘distinctive’ design

June 3, 2014

Starbucks recently opened its first company-owned store at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. According to the company’s blog, the new store features a distinctive design headed by Senior Designer David Daniels.

“My imagination runs wild, and as I draw I think about how somebody might meet the girl of their dreams there. All sorts of things could happen there, if only the walls could speak,” Daniels said.

The Disney World Starbucks covers about 4,000 square feet. Starbucks opened in Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., in March. Daniels said both locations are the result of the “magic” that can happen when two “storytelling companies” work together.

Both Disney Starbucks feature in-store interactive touchscreens, a first for the coffee brand. The digital display panels are 70 inches wide and use built-in cameras to “create chalk sketches of guests and their surroundings,” Starbucks’ blog said.

Guests at Disney World will be able to interact with guests at Disneyland.

“This is the beginning of connecting our stores globally through technology so you could share a cup of coffee from coast-to-coast,” Daniels said.

Another design feature includes Metallic Venetian plaster artwork depicting the Starbucks’ story.

The new location also marks the coffee chains 500th LEED store, fitting standards set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council. The sustainable features include energy-efficient LED lighting, reclaimed wood and other materials, a green roof filled with lemon grass plants and more.

Starbucks Disney also offers small-batch coffees from around the world and a variety of food offerings.
