Square Order testing proximity tagging for line-busting ordering feature

Customers can pre-order menu item, and when they are within a zone timed to food and beverage preparation, a 'proximity tag' is triggered alerting the restaurant to start prepping.

Square is testing an upgrade to its Order app that predicts the customer's arrival, according to Gizmodo.

Customers can pre-order menu item, and when they are within a zone timed to food and beverage preparation, a "proximity tag" is triggered alerting the restaurant to start preparing the order. The order is then ready right as the customer walks through the door. Since the customer has already paid via the app, they pick up the order and exit.

Square also saves preferences and favorite orders for the customer.

Testing is underway in New York and San Francisco. The update will be available to all businesses currently using Square Order.
