Secret password promo propels California Tortilla sales
April 16, 2009
ROCKVILLE, Md. — California Tortilla has given away more than 800 free tacos to customers who say a secret password only communicated to them through Facebook or Twitter. In addition to increased store traffic, online chatter about the company has skyrocketed over the past two weeks since the start of the company's Social Networking Month.
"We wanted to test the power of social marketing and we are very happy with the results so far," said California Tortilla marketing director Stacey Kane. "Word-of-mouth has really evolved with the advent of Twitter, Facebook and other social networking Web sites and we are just looking at the tip of the iceberg."
The company has other passwords coming soon, but won't say when they will be revealed, or through which social networking site (Facebook, Twitter and Taco Talk).
