Report links Jimmy John’s 2013 Colorado E. coli outbreak to imported cucumbers

The cucumbers were not contaminated by Jimmy John's crew members, but sometimes during growing, harvest, transport or distribution of the produce, which was imported from Mexico.

According to a recently issued report from Colorado health officials, a 2013 E.coli outbreak that sickened nine Jimmy John’s customers in the Denver area has been linked to imported cucumbers, said the Food Poisoning Bulletin

The E. coli O157:H7 outbreak was for the first associated with cucumbers in the United States.

The report pinpointed the likely source of the contamination as the cucumbers themselves and not workers' handling of the food items. No food handling violations or sick crew members were noted in the report.

The contamination could have taken place during growing, harvest, transport or distribution of the cucumbers, which were imported from Mexico.
