Report: kiosks not hurting restaurant jobs

September 20, 2017

KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, explored the impact of self-order kiosks on restaurant jobs and concluded in its report that there was no indication that kiosks were adversely affecting jobs.

The report said research suggested that the technology could  increase demand and actually lead to more jobs.

Panera agreed, the report noted, and McDonald's has stated it does not plan to reduce the number of employees as it introduces self-order kiosks.

The report also quoted the owner of a local restaurant, Beaver Choice in Mesa, Arizona, saying the introduction of kiosks would not reduce the number of employees.

"There is potential that technology will cause a loss in jobs, but we're not seeing it yet," the report stated.
