Panera Bread Q1 revenues increase 35%

ST. LOUIS — Panera Bread Company reported that revenue for the first-quarter ended March 28 increased 35 percent to $194 million from $144 million in the comparable period of 2005.
 
According to a news release, Panera's system-wide comparable bakery-cafe sales increased 9.3 percent.
 
During the first quarter of 2006, 22 new bakery-cafes were opened (nine company-owned and 13 franchise-operated) and two bakery-cafes were closed in conjunction with relocations to new bakery-cafes (one company-owned and one franchise-operated).
