Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan will open its doors this week after months of training and preparation, according to a press release.
Howard Schultz, chairman emeritus of Starbucks, credits a trip to Milan in 1983, for inspiring the company that became Starbucks, and Milanese partners are thrilled to be a part of this full circle moment.
Its employees are baristas, bakers, mixologists and coffee roasters. They are from all corners of Italy — Milano, Palermo, Sicily, Verona, Pisa — as well as all parts of the world. Partner Alessandro Todaro from Palermo in southern Italy said he comes from a very big family, and the last few months have felt familiar to him.
"I'm making my second family here," he said. "I'm so excited to start this new experience. When I grabbed this apron – behind this there is history. I can't wait for people to see a different kind of Starbucks and the coffee inspired by Italy."
