Mad-cow case confirmed in Alberta

CalgarySun: The latest case of mad-cow disease has been confirmed in a 6-year-old cow born and raised in Alberta, Canada, the country's food inspection agency said Monday. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems, according to a statement posted on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Web site. The United States reopened its borders to Canadian cattle last July following a 2-year ban prompted by the discovery of mad cow in the country. Japan closed its borders to beef imports from the United States earlier this month.
