Ordering through a mobile device accounts for 0.6 percent of all restaurant traffic in the U.S., according to market research firm NPD's Global Senior Vice President of Foodservice Bob O'Brien, referencing the organization's CREST data.
Fast casual, according to the research, is the most likely restaurant category to report mobile ordering, at 1 percent of the segment's total traffic. And for Millennials, about 1 percent of the generation's traffic goes toward mobile ordering.
Much like the trend of spending more with the advent of credit cards, customers who use mobile apps also spend more, and at all categories of restaurants. Customers also rate higher satisfaction with service, the research found, when using mobile apps.
