Connecticut Starbucks customers go gangbusters paying it forward

December 30, 2013

Starbucks has long had a pay-it-forward reputation, with customers willing to pick up the bill for the car behind them in the drive-thru. Customers at a Newington, Conn., location have just raised the bar significantly.

According to ABC News, customers at the Starbucks have surpassed 1,000 pay-it-forward tabs, a company record. The record, in fact, was broken after day two of the grassroots effort, when the 783rd customer paid for the subsequent guest.

This morning, the Consumerist reported that the number is now close to 1,500.

The chain began on Christmas Eve at 8 a.m. When the number reached 40, an employee posted a photo of the tally on Instagram.
