Chipotle is kicking off a new rewards program starting July 1. The Chiptopia Summer Rewards offers free food and bonus rewards for customer visits.
The three-month rewards program isn't a typical approach, according to an announcement, as rewards are not being based on money spent or on accumulating points. Instead it's all about paid visits during a given month.
"We created Chiptopia to reward our most loyal customers who continue to support our efforts to cultivate a better world," said Mark Crumpacker, chief creative and development officer at Chipotle, in the announcement. "While Chiptopia Summer Rewards lasts just three months, we will be carefully listening to our customers and using what we learn as we consider the design of an ongoing rewards program."
There are three rewards levels: Mild, medium and hot. Mild is for four visits in the month and wins the customer a free entrée. For customers who achieve "hot" in all three months the rewards can be up to nine free entrees plus a $240 "Catering for 20" bonus reward.
To join the program customers can pick up a Chiptopia card starting July 1 and begin earning credit toward the three reward levels. Those who register by July 31 will earn free chips and guacamole with the first entrée purchase of $6 or more before tax. A qualifying visit is a purchase of at least $6 before taxes.
In each month a customer's fourth, eighth and eleventh visit and entrée purchase will trigger a reward for one free entrée and push the customer up a program tier. At the end of each month, purchase totals reset to zero, and participants begin again the following month.
Customers who achieve the same status level for three consecutive months in a row will be eligible for bonus rewards.
Bonus rewards are only available to those customers who achieve status levels all three months.
