California Tortilla to open 30th location

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Fresh-Mex chain California Tortilla is slated to open its 30th location this month in Bristow, Va., the company announced.
 
The company is on track to have 38 restaurants open by the end of 2007, with an average unit volume of $1.1 million for stores open for a year or more. Five of those restaurants are company owned and operated, with the remainder operated by franchisees.
 
According to California Tortilla president Bob Phillips, system-wide sales are on track to hit $29.5 million in 2007, a 48-percent increase over 2006. Sales were paced by the brand's specialty burrito category led by the top three sellers, the Blackened Chicken Caesar, Crunchy BBQ Ranch and Honey Lime burritos.
