March 29, 2006
ATLANTA — To celebrate its 42nd anniversary, BLIMPIE is featuring "Hot Classic" subs for April.
According to a news release, the Hot Classics line-up features the Meatball Parmigiana, Peppercorn Steak and Grilled Chicken Marinara.
The Meatball Parmigiana features Italian meatballs smothered in zesty tomato basil marinara sauce and topped with slices of melted provolone cheese and sprinkled with a four-cheese blend. The Peppercorn Steak includes thinly sliced beef and onions with melted provolone cheese and cracked peppercorn sauce. The Grilled Chicken Marinara consists of grilled chicken strips with melted provolone cheese, tomato basil marinara sauce and oregano. According to the release, all three of these sandwiches are formulated to contain zero grams of trans fat and can be ordered on the new whole grain wheat bread, or any of the other fresh-baked artisan breads offered by BLIMPIE.
"BLIMPIE has come a long way over the past 42 years. We began as a traditional sub shop serving 'a salad on a sandwich' and have grown into nearly 1,600 restaurants nationwide expanding our menu to appeal to today's sandwich eating consumer," said Mark Mears, chief marketing officer for BLIMPIE. "We plan to remain a pacesetter in the sandwich segment."
BLIMPIE is also running an online promotion that allows for consumers to vote for their favorite song from the past 42 years. The release said the Hot Classics sandwich promotion will be supported by a fully integrated multi-media campaign, including broadcast, print advertising, in-restaurant merchandising and local restaurant marketing activities.
BLIMPIE was acquired by the Kahala Corp. in January 2006.
