Big Dave's Cheesesteaks, a fast-casual concept known for its authentic West Philly flavors, has signed its first franchise agreement in Washington, D.C. The deal marks a significant expansion into the nation's capital as the brand transitions from a regional favorite to a national contender.
The franchise entity, BIG DMV, is led by a group of experienced restaurant operators based in the D.C. market. Under the agreement, the group will spearhead the development and operation of multiple Big Dave's locations throughout the District, capitalizing on the region's high population density and diverse culinary scene.
The expansion comes during a period of accelerating momentum for the Atlanta-based brand. It follows the recent appointment of industry veteran Shawna Snyder as chief operating officer and the solidification of national supply chain partnerships with Amoroso's Baking Company and Philly's Best Steak Company.
"Washington, D.C., is the perfect market for where this brand is headed," Derrick Hayes, founder and CEO of Big Dave's Cheesesteaks, said in a company press release. "It's culturally diverse, highly influential, and filled with consumers who connect with authentic concepts. Shawna has brought a new level of execution and strategic focus to our growth efforts, and we're seeing that momentum translate into real expansion opportunities."
"Growth only works when you have the right operators behind it," Snyder said. "BIG DMV represents exactly the kind of partnership we're looking for — experienced restaurant leaders who understand hospitality, execution, and long-term brand building."
Founded by Hayes in a 700-square-foot gas station, Big Dave's has gained national attention for its signature cheesesteaks and community-focused mission. The brand was recently named to Fast Casual's "Top 100 Movers & Shakers" list for 2025
