At McAlister's, tea beats out ... chocolate?

July 14, 2016

In the run-up to McAlister's Deli's Eighth annual Free Tea Day, the chain surveyed more than 1,000 adult consumers in the U.S. to produce this somewhat surprising finding that 57 percent of those polled claim to prefer sweet tea over chocolate. Next Thursday, July 21, patrons of the deli's locations will receive free 32-ounce glasses of McAlister's tea to assuage that yearning, while 25 customers will receive a free Tea Day T-shirt.

On top of that, the brand said it's collaborating with Atlanta-based Red Brick brewery to create a sweet tea beer, using the deli's much-loved beverage. The tea-toned beer will then be available at the brewery in late August, according to a news release.

"We've always known our tea freaks are die-hard sweet tea fans, but this survey was a unique and engaging way for us to connect with them and truly understand how much they love sweet tea," said McAlister's Deli President Rick Altizer. "We're very excited to partner with Red Brick and work with another Atlanta-based company and celebrate our city's passions for sweet tea and craft beer."
