American Airlines to serve Ben & Jerry's sundaes

October 27, 2009

Ben & Jerry's is the latest brand to find a home for some of its products on airline carriers. Starting Nov. 1, American Airlines will serve new Ben & Jerry's sundaes to Business Class travelers on flights from the United States to Europe, Japan, Latin America, India and China. The Ben & Jerry's sundaes will expand to Business Class cabins on transcontinental flights beginning Dec. 1.

Sundae flavors will rotate monthly and include:
  • Heath Bar Crunch - Made with Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch ice cream and topped with chopped cocoa dusted almonds
  • Rocky Road - Made with Ben & Jerry's Fair Trade Chocolate ice cream topped with marshmallows and chopped walnuts
  • Cookies & Cream - Made with Ben & Jerry's Sweet Cream & Cookies ice cream sprinkled with chocolate shavings
American began implementing complimentary dining enhancements in April and has continued to update its service throughout this year with Ben & Jerry's sundaes and many more service adjustments.

"Throughout 2009, we've strategically fine-tuned our inflight dining experience by adjusting and augmenting our existing service," said John Tiliacos, American's managing director, Onboard Products. "We hope that these enhancements -- whether it's a premium Ben & Jerry's ice cream sundae or a new, larger wine glass -- will positively impact our customers' travel experience."

Service enhancements include new baked onboard cookies in premium cabins on all American Airlines flights; the introduction of an appetizer course and bread plate, as well as a new cheesecake in domestic first class; a new fresh cake dessert option for customers traveling internationally in economy class; and a variety of other enhanced food and beverage offerings for customers traveling in premium cabins as well as flying internationally in economy class.
