The Hummus & Pita Co kicking off national expansion with Connecticut opening

The Hummus & Pita Co will mark the official start of its national expansion Saturday with the opening of its first franchised store in Brookfield, Connecticut. The brand's newest outpost, located at 15 Federal Rd., is part of a multi-unit, statewide franchise deal inked earlier this year, according to a company press release.

"Since first finalizing our franchise deal with The Hummus & Pita Co., we have anxiously been waiting for this day," franchisee Saiyam Shah, said in the release. "It fills my heart with immense joy to see my dream of opening one of New York City's best Mediterranean fast casual concepts come to fruition."

The Mediterranean concept has been in business since 2011. All menu items are made from scratch on the premises at each location. The brand also sells fresh pita and laffa breads, vegetarian dishes, meats cooked in a traditional taboon oven and hummus-based dessert offerings.

Its three existing stores in New York City average more than $1,000 in sales per square foot, according to the release. Units will open by the end of the year in Detroit, Denver and Bellworks, New Jersey, and several Los Angeles locations will be ready by 2019.

"We, as a family, are so excited to be able to spread our dream nationally with our first of five grand openings in five new markets in the next four months," said Dave Pesso, co-founder of The Hummus & Pita Co, in the release.
