The Chickery partners with Fransmart for global expansion

May 15, 2014

The Chickery, a 2-year-old Toronto-based chicken concept created by celebrity chef David Adjey, has signed an agreement with Fransmart to expand into new markets.

According to a news release, Adjey has competed on Iron Chef America and also starred on both Restaurant Makeover and The Opener.

Under the agreement, Fransmart will serve as The Chickery’s exclusive franchise development partner and has also invested, along with key Fransmart employees, to own a controlling interest in The Chickery.

“This is unlike any relationship we’ve ever had with a portfolio brand. Following our success with Five Guys and the better burger segment explosion, I knew ‘better chicken’ was the next big thing that would grow globally and The Chickery is the best positioned concept in the space. We believe so strongly in this concept that we invested ourselves,” Fransmart CEO Dan Rowe said in the release.

The Chickery plans to develop Toronto corporately — it is currently looking for two additional locations in the city, and plans to open at least one to two new corporate units every year in Toronto (in addition to franchised locations) for the next five years.
