The Big Salad 'Seal[s] The Deal' with high school students

July 10, 2017

CEO John Bornoty founded The Big Salad in Grosse Pointe, Michigan in 2008 and today is helping other young entrepreneurs find their footing in a competitive industry. According to a press release, The Big Salad partnered with Gross Pointe High School to host its learning program and competition, "Seal the Deal," which helps students create and market their own menu item for the concept.

Now a sophomore at Michigan State, Luke Drieborg won the 2014 Seal the Deal competition with his team's sandwich, "The Big League."

"This was the first time I ever have tried selling directly to consumers and it was a terrific learning experience," he said in a news release. "Being comfortable selling a product, a service or myself is a skill I'll need for whatever I choose to do. I'm really grateful to The Big Salad for the opportunity."

Seal the Deal lasted a month and taught students how to successfully design and market a menu item. The creations were featured at The Big Salad's Grosse Pointe location. The item that generated the most sales won the competition.

"The community really rallied behind the students who worked so hard to generate sales of their menu items," Bornoty said, in a news release. "I'm always impressed with what the kids come up with. Some of their items will certainly stay on our menu longer than one semester if they continue to sell."

Bornoty said the program has seen tremendous success with high school students in Grosse Pointe.

"As we continue to expand The Big Salad franchise into new territories, we are excited to introduce Seal the Deal to those communities as well," he said.
