Sweetgreen launching digital model

May 6, 2022

As Sweetgreen's digital business is growing, accounting for 67% of its 2021 total revenue, it is piloting its first digital-only pickup location in Washington D.C.'s Mt. Vernon Square.

Opening Aug. 1, the restaurant doesn't offer inside dining or a front-service line. Instead, customers place orders via Sweetgreen's website, mobile app and participating third-party delivery services and retrieve orders from pick-up shelves for a frictionless grab-and-go experience, according to a company press release.

The digital-only restaurant also allows Sweetgreen to move quickly to fulfill customer demand, and reach new guests in areas that would not otherwise support a full-size restaurant.

"With digital sales representing over half of our total revenue last fiscal year, the sweetgreen pickup kitchen is a true extension of our growing digital business," said Sweetgreen Co-founder and Chief Concept Officer Nicolas Jammet. "We are excited to meet our customers where they are, by providing new ways to eat fresh, healthy food without sacrificing quality or convenience."

Sweetgreen has 150 locations.
