Starbucks releases first 50 locations to close

SEATTLE — Starbucks Corp. has released a list of the first 50 retail locations set to close throughout the rest of the year and into the first half of 2009, beginning this month.
The company announced July 1, 2008, that it will close approximately 600 company-operated stores in the United States. The determination of each store's closure date is dependent on several operational and contractual factors and events, according to a company news release.
After closure dates have been communicated to all affected employees, the company plans to post a list of the stores that are scheduled to close during that month on its Web site.
The first 50 stores are closing in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and West Virginia.
