Nine National Restaurant Association members have been included on Corporate Responsibility Magazine’slist of the 2011 100 Best Corporate Citizens, illustrating the restaurant industry’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
National Restaurant Association member companies included are Conagra Foods Inc. (No. 70), Coca-Cola Co. (No. 14), Darden Restaurants Inc. (No. 75), Hormel Foods Corp. (No. 30), Pepsico Inc. (No. 25), Procter & Gamble Co. (No. 32), Sara Lee Corp. (No. 27), Starbucks Corp. (No. 39) and Walt Disney Co. (No. 58).
“We are proud to have these companies as members of the National Restaurant Association, and congratulate them on their accomplishments,” said Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the NRA. “The National Restaurant Association has identified sustainability and social responsibility as one of four key industry imperatives, and the Corporate Responsibility Magazine list offers validation that we are a progressive industry in this field. Philanthropy and environmental sustainability are major components of a successful and compassionate restaurant community. “
The list is determined based on publicly available data in seven categories: climate change, employee relations, environment, financial, governance, human rights and philanthropy.
Corporate Responsibility Magazinehas published its Best Corporate Citizens list for 12 years. The list has been named as one of the top three most important business rankings by PR Week, according to the magazine’s website.
Next month, the Association will announce the winners of the 2011 Restaurant Neighbor Award, which recognizes restaurants for outstanding commitment and contributions to community service.
