Starbucks, Challenge Seattle launch COVID-19 vaccination playbook

Provided

March 22, 2021

Starbucks, which joined forcesearlier this year with Washington State GovernorInslee and Challenge Seattle, to create the COVID-19 Vaccine Action Command and Coordination System Center to help optimize equitable access to the vaccine in Washington State, has released a playbook of best practices from their partnership. Other states and government leaders may leverage the findings and efficiencies for other mass vaccination sites across the country, according to an email from Starbucks to FastCasual.

The partnership helped Washington State accelerate vaccine distribution to meet Governor Inslee's 45,000 vaccinations per day goal, and the organizations hope the playbook will serve as a resource for those seeking best practices from the public-private partnerships Challenge Seattle has established in Washington State — whether it be other states, public health agencies, private companies, community NGOs, or others.

Through the VACCS Center, private sector partners including Starbucks are supporting the Washington Department of Health by donating expertise and resources, engaging in joint problem solving, and partnering to build trust, including:

  • Logistical expertise, leading to marked increase in throughput at vaccination sites.
  • Improving existing tools to determine vaccine supply allocations to ensure equity in vaccine distribution.
  • Developing a reimagined vaccine locator tool online to make it easier for Washington residents to determine vaccine eligibility and book appointments.
  • Launching call centers for Washington residents to make vaccination appointments, ensuring ease and equity, especially for those facing technology barriers.
