Sarku Japan system expands in New York City market

August 24, 2012

Sarku Japan continues the northeast expansion of its franchise program with the opening of six new Teriyaki and Sushi Express stores in the New York metropolitan area.

New locations include Brooklyn, Long Island, Harlem, Yonkers and two stores in Queens. Traditionally located in mall food courts, Sarku expanded its brand in 2008 with the launch of free-standing restaurants in metro markets across the country.

"Ever since opening our street locations in Northern New Jersey, we've received a tremendous response from both customers and potential franchisees," said Bruce Kim, assistant vice president of Franchises. "Due to store visibility and brand resonance among customers, metro NYC was the logistical next step."

Sarku Japan can be found in more than 200 food courts in malls nationwide. Free-standing restaurants are located in metro markets such as Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, as well as international markets such as South America. The company's plans for expansion include opening 15 to 20 corporate and franchise stores per year throughout the next five years.
