One in five children struggles with hunger in America, and to help some of those kids, Mexican fast casual restaurant chain Salsarita's is joining thousands of restaurants nationwide this September to support Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign by raising funds in their restaurants. For the entire month of September, all participating Salsarita's units will donate 25 cents each time guests purchase their Sol Lemonade.
Funds raised through Salsarita's September promotion will help spread awareness about child hunger in the U.S.; create public-private partnerships that align kids with the resources they need; support nutrition programs like School Breakfast and Summer Meals; and educate kids and their families on how to cook healthy meals with limited resources, according to a company press release.
"Everyone — private citizens, businesses, policymakers, and nonprofits — has a role in helping end childhood hunger in America," said Billy Shore, founder and CEO of Share Our Strength. "I encourage everyone to dine out often at participating restaurants wherever they are this September. Then visit NoKidHungry.org to join this national movement to ensure that every child in America has access to the nutritious food they need, every day."
Founded in 2000 in Charlotte, N.C., Salsarita's offers Mexican cusinine, including Casaritos, Mexican pizza-inspired Cantizzas and an assortment of tacos, quesadillas and nachos made fresh to order with an extensive selection of proteins, toppings and fillings, as well as six house-made salsas.
The growing franchise has more than 80 locations in 19 states, including seven that are company-owned. Salsarita's expects to have four to six franchise agreements signed before the end of 2013, with long-range projections calling for over 300 locations nationwide over the next several years.
