Restaurants to report earnings
January 26, 2006
MarketWatch: Some of the biggest names in the restaurant industry will be releasing quarterly results next week.
On an industry-wide basis, restaurant consultancy Technomic forecast that sales last year rose 6 percent and is predicting this year's receipts to ring up 5 percent to 6 percent higher.
By sector, the casual-dining restaurants have been weak compared with QSR outlets, according to NPD Group. QSR restaurants, mostly fast-food types, climbed 2.3 percent last year compared with 0.8 percent in 2004 -- while casual dining, aimed mostly at families, saw unit growth slow.
