Quiznos hires fired Subway 'Good Samaritan'

June 13, 2010

A Quiznos in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is trying to capitalize on the ill will aimed at a nearby Subway in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, after management there fired an employee for giving away two sub sandwiches. The Quiznos franchisee has since hired her, reports The Montreal Gazette.

Former Subway employee Heidi Heise was trying to help out two of her neighbors whose apartment had burned down by giving them the sandwiches for which she was eligible for her lunch, according to CTV Toronto. When she failed to record the subs as her lunch sub, she was fired for theft, setting off a social media firestorm and news frenzy dubbing her as a wronged Good Samaritan.

The franchisee told CTV that the matter could have been handled differently if they had known of the victims' plight since the stores regularly support the local Red Cross and its efforts to help local fire and flood victims.

A Halifax Quiznos franchisee heard Heise's story and offered her a job. Addtionally, the franchisee will contribute $1 from every sub sold at a local Quiznos location June 12 to June 20 and match that amount to help those displaced by the fire.
