Panera co-CEO Moreton plans to step down from role

April 25, 2013

Panera Bread Co. co-CEO Bill Moreton announced plans earlier this week that he will step down from his current role because of a "family matter." The St. Louis Business Journal reports he will transition into an executive vice chairman role, which requires less traveling.

The change will be effective Aug. 1. At that time, co-CEO Rich Shaich will assume the role of sole CEO.

Shaich previously served as CEO from 1994 to 2010, and co-CEO from 1988 to 1994 and March 2012 until now. Shaich said Moreton will remain an active partner with the brand in his new role.
