POS systems have evolved into sophisticated digital transactions. They're no longer simply cash registers — they keep payments, employee hours, analytics and mobile and loyalty program information all in one place.
In a free webinar sponsored by Oracle Food & Beverage, Amber Trendell, senior director of strategy, and Tom Seeker, chief information officer for Earl Enterprises, took a look at designing a multi-channel customer experience.
"Oracle has an entire suite of industry products and solutions," Trendell said. "In fact, we serve over 25 industries, and food and beverage is one of them, so we're a vertically integrated unit in the broader Oracle ecosystem. And all we think about is delivering and developing and working with customers that are other purveyors of food and beverage. Whether that be a food hall or a stadium or a theme park, we are the solution provider in that regard."
Seeker said Earl Enterprises operate multiple concepts, and even has a number of food vendors under one roof in its concept, Topanga Social. With 14 brands, that a lot of tech, but instead of using a number of POS systems, he uses the Oracle platform across his brands.
"One of the challenges with this environment … is we have 27 different restaurants in one food hall," Seeker said. "Think of a very high end food court with the best of the best of brands from around L.A. … This is one point-of-sale system. Not 27, it's one, and it's using best-of-class solutions from kiosks, to KDS, tablets, online ordering, remote ordering, delivery — all the different things that can be done all and all integrating through the Oracle Symphony product. So we work together with the best of the best. We have third-party companies, and Oracle is the root of what we do."
Seeker said his brands have been using the Oracle solution for nearly a year.
Trendell added the Symphony platform has come a long way since its inception in the food and beverage industry. It has moved away from simply a point-of-sale machine to a full-bodied transaction platform.
