Enough Is Enough has launched "P*rn Free Wi-Fi," an initiative to encourage corporations to implement pornography filters in their Wi-Fi networks.
"Now is the time for corporate America to take a stand against Internet p*rnography and child p*rnography. Recent peer-reviewed research shows the extreme nature of Internet p*rnography is having a destructive impact on the mental, emotional and sexual health of adolescents, including addictive and even criminal behavior," EIE CEO Donna Rice Hughes wrote in a press release.
The initial phase the campaign targets McDonald's and Starbucks, asking them to lead the way by implementing pornography filters in their US restaurants. According to the release, each company already pro-actively filters porn from their free Wi-Fi services in UK under an industry-wide self-regulation initiative led by British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The EIE said other limited-service brands, including Chick-fil-A and Panera Bread, already filter this content on their networks.
The EIE sent certified letters to the McDonald’s and Starbucks’ CEOs last April, the release said, and hasn’t received a response from the latter. McDonald’s told the EIE is is looking into options for effective filtering.
