NRA to participate in US Food Waste Challenge webinar

The webinar, sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture, will offer information on reducing food waste through food donation.

The National Restaurant Association will participate in a US Food Waste Challenge webinar, Sept. 24.

Titled "Supermarkets, Restaurants, & Food Service Companies Reducing Food Waste, Feeding the Hungry, & Saving Money," the webinar, sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture, will offer tips, tools and information on reducing food waste through food donation.

"We are pleased to be able to participate in this presentation, which we think will help restaurateurs better understand the issue of food waste and the advantages of reducing the amount that is sent regularly to landfills," said Laura Abshire, the NRA's director of sustainability, in a news release. "We also want to educate industry members on the best ways of donating unused food to food banks and other organizations serving those in need. Fighting food waste is both sustainable and socially responsible."
