Nestle has partnered with OpenSC, a blockchain platform built by WWF-Australia and The Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures, to allow customers to track products from farm to fork on the blockchain. OpenSC will run a pilot to trace milk from farms in New Zealand to Nestle factories and warehouses in the Middle East, according to a press release.
In 2017, Nestle piloted blockchain technology with IBM's Food Trust. It also offered consumers blockchain data on its Mousline puree product in France.
"We want our consumers to make an informed decision on their choice of products – to choose products produced responsibly. Open blockchain technology might allow us to share reliable information with consumers in an accessible way," Magdi Batato, EVP, head of operations, Nestle S.A., said in the release.
