The opening of Nando’s Peri-Peri at Gaithersburg’s Washingtonian Center last week is the first of three new restaurants the company is opening in Maryland this year.
Nando’s Peri-Peri in Washingtonian/Rio Center, which opened for business Aug. 31, is the second Montgomery County location, with the third planned for Bethesda Row in October. The first Prince George’s County location is slated to open at National Harbor in November.
“Opening these new restaurants is affirmation of our commitment to growth in the U.S.,” said Burton Heiss, managing director of Nando’s Restaurant Group. “We are confident that our new restaurants will continue the success story that began in Africa in 1987.”
In 2008, the company selected Washington, D.C., as its first U.S. market because of its strong urban job center with suburban hubs, as well as being an international city providing a base of people who are familiar with the brand from other countries.
Nando’s has been serving its legendary Peri-Peri chicken for more than 24 years at hundreds of restaurants across the globe. The company has more than 900 locations in 30 countries.
